US Envoy Says Syria Becomes “Laboratory” for Regional Diplomacy Shift

(MENAFN) According to reports, US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack said on Sunday that Syria is emerging as a “laboratory for a new regional alignment of diplomacy, integration and hope for the entire region.”

Barrack made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X following a meeting on Saturday with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, where they discussed developments in Syria and broader regional issues.

He said that under Sharaa’s leadership, and with what he described as the “dedicated diplomacy” of Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, the country has made “remarkable” progress.

Barrack added that the opportunities ahead could bring “exponential advancement” for the Syrian people as well as long-term stability, according to reports.

The meeting reportedly took place at the People’s Palace in Damascus. A Syrian news agency said the discussions focused on developments in Syria and the region, as well as ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two sides.
