Report Warns Germany’s Stance on Allies’ Actions Risks Credibility Loss

(MENAFN) A major peace and conflict research report released Monday argues that Germany’s unwillingness to openly criticize alleged violations of international law by close allies such as the United States and Israel is weakening its credibility on the global stage and contributing to the decline of the rules-based international order.

The 2026 Peace Report, compiled annually by leading German conflict research institutes, warned that an increasing number of countries are behaving like “warlords” and treating military force as a “political tool.” The authors cautioned that failing to challenge such behavior could fuel further instability and intensify conflicts worldwide.

The report was particularly critical of Berlin’s foreign policy approach, highlighting what it described as hesitation to condemn unilateral US military actions, alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza, and Israeli military operations in Lebanon and Syria.

According to the report’s authors, “By selectively denouncing breaches of international law while, through evasive language, appearing to tolerate violations by allies such as the US and Israel, Germany risks undermining its credibility as an international actor.”

The experts called on the German government to reassess its position and adopt a more consistent approach toward upholding international law, regardless of which countries are involved.
